Labelled DAVID RUSSELL YOUNG/LUTHIER, signed and dated by the maker David Russell Young/1978, rosewood back and sides bound in rosewood and decorative wood purfling, spruce top with abalone pearl inlay, ebony fingerboard with pearl inlay, peghead inlayed with pearl in a butterfly motif, length of back 20 3/16 in. (51.3 cm.); and hardshell case with adhesive tape inscribed by Lee Dickson David Russell Young/6 String AC/1978

David Russell Young is best known to guitar makers as the author of The Steel String Guitar - Construction and Repair. This 1975 book was instrumental in influencing a generation of American luthiers.
The outline of this instrument is strongly influenced by the Dreadnought series of guitars first produced by C.F. Martin and Company.
